In a fast-paced world, you depend on all of your vendors to consistently produce excellent results. Your printer should provide quality work each time they run your annual report or university viewbook. It is your company or university’s brand that is on the line. A good printer understands this. An outstanding printer embraces the quality process with ISO Certification.
What Is ISO?
Maybe you have heard the term or seen advertisements of manufacturing plants indicating they are “ISO Certified,” but you are not quite sure what it means.
ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. When a vendor is ISO Certified, they have determined to operate at a level of quality that includes providing the best products possible while continuously improving processes throughout their operations.
The result of these efforts translates into better products and experiences for you, the customer.
What It Takes to be ISO Certified
Acquiring ISO Certification is no small task. There are many requirements and standards to meet or exceed. According to ISO 9001:2015, a company
- needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and
- aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
It requires a company to review all of its processes, collect data, analyze what works and what needs improvement and put in the required processes to ensure improvement happens.
The company then goes through an extensive auditing process by an independent, outside auditor aimed at ensuring they have met the Standard. If they pass the audit, they are recommended for certification.
How World Arts Embraces ISO Standards
Since its inception, World Arts has operated with the highest standards and ethics. Yet, we knew our customers deserved more, and we were determined to give it to them.
We took a hard look at our Quality Assurance program and implemented procedures to better manage nonconformities.
We ramped up our training program to ensure that our hard-working team was properly trained and cross-trained.
We invested in our facility to ensure our operators worked under clean and comfortable conditions. This included installing energy-efficient LED lights for increased visibility and additional humidifiers to keep humidity at manufacturer recommended levels, which can affect print quality.
We embraced our new in-shop motto of ‘continuous improvement’. Our quality control personnel pay close attention to spot possible inconsistencies through sampling, first piece inspections, and first articles.
